As the year progresses towards its midpoint, UAE residents can look forward to a few more public holidays, particularly with the upcoming Eid Al Adha break. One significant holiday on the horizon is Union Day, previously known as National Day, which will be celebrated on December 2 and 3, a Monday and Tuesday. This will result in a four-day weekend for those who have weekends off.
Union Day commemorates the formation of the UAE, and the government has allocated two days for its celebration. This extended break is a welcome respite for many, though those in the service industry may not benefit from the full duration.
Additionally, Commemoration Day, observed annually on November 30, includes a minute’s silence at 11:30 AM to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for the country. Traditionally, a holiday is granted on the following day, December 1, though this was not the case in 2023.
Looking ahead, the UAE Cabinet has also released the complete list of public holidays for 2025. While some dates are subject to moon sightings and their alignment with the Islamic calendar, the announcement allows residents to plan their holidays in advance. The resolution also permits local governments to declare additional holidays for specific government departments and institutions.
