The Abu Dhabi Police confirmed on Monday, January 29, that a minimum speed limit of 120 km/h is now in effect on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road. This regulation applies to both directions of the highway, specifically targeting the first and second lanes from the left, designated as the fast lanes.
While the maximum speed remains capped at 140 km/h, drivers in the fast lanes are required to maintain a speed of not less than 120 km/h. Failing to adhere to this minimum speed can result in a Dh400 fine, as part of the efforts to ensure road safety and efficient traffic flow.
Authorities clarified that the minimum speed requirement does not extend to the third and last lanes of the road. These lanes are intended for slower-moving vehicles, with the last lane primarily designated for heavy vehicles. These vehicles are exempt from the 120 km/h minimum speed rule.
The implementation of this rule aims to enhance road safety by mandating slow-moving vehicles to utilize the right lanes. This arrangement allows faster vehicles to pass safely, reducing the risks of accidents and improving overall traffic movement.
The Abu Dhabi Police urge drivers to remain vigilant, especially when changing lanes. They advise ensuring a clear road ahead and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles. The use of indicators during lane changes is also emphasized as a critical safety measure.
