wagamama, the popular pan-Asian restaurant chain, is launching its “Wasteless with wagamama” campaign this June, aiming to reduce food waste and environmental impact. This initiative encourages customers to pledge to waste less, with a chance to win 1,000 AED worth of meals at any wagamama location.
Food waste is a significant issue in the UAE, contributing to nearly 1,000,000 tons annually, which makes up approximately 38% of the total waste produced. This problem has prompted the UAE government to make food waste reduction a key component of its National Food Security Strategy 2051.
Inspired by the UAE’s commitment to sustainability, wagamama’s Wasteless campaign seeks to address food waste directly. Ankitha Rajendaran, Marketing Director, says, “At wagamama, we embrace the principle of kaizen, focusing on continuous improvement in every aspect of our business. We are dedicated to creating a culture of non-waste. The Wasteless with wagamama campaign embodies our commitment to sustainability, community involvement, and the relentless pursuit of positive change.”
The campaign includes several initiatives:
- Reclaim & Refill Containers: Customers can purchase wagamama’s reusable tupperwares in-store for just 12 AED, encouraging them to take leftovers home and reduce food waste. Additionally, customers will receive a 10% discount on their bill every time they use their wagamama tupperware for dine-in or takeaway.
- Waste-less Competition: By purchasing and using the wagamama tupperware at least five times between June and July, customers are automatically entered into the Waste-less Competition, with a chance to win 1,000 AED worth of meals. The winner will be announced on July 31, 2024.
The Wasteless with wagamama campaign aims to foster a greater appreciation for food and the resources needed to produce it, reinforcing the importance of mindful consumption and waste reduction.
Join wagamama in their mission to waste less and win big, making a significant impact on the environment and community.
