The UAE dispatched an aircraft carrying 33 tonnes of essential food supplies today to assist victims of the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan.
The calamity, centered northwest of Herat, claimed thousands of lives, including women and children, and caused extensive damage to infrastructure.
The aid was assembled through the joint initiatives of multiple UAE humanitarian organizations, notably the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
These efforts were coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
Sultan Al Shamsi, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations Affairs, remarked on the shipment, “This urgent relief of food supplies signifies our ongoing commitment to supporting nations during crises, especially natural disasters. These unfortunate events often lead to acute shortages of essential goods, necessitating swift interventions to aid vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly.”
Highlighting the UAE’s proactive response, Al Shamsi noted that the nation was among the first to lend a helping hand to Afghanistan in the aftermath of the earthquake.
