UAE private sector urged to adopt remote work amid bad weather

In response to the moderate to heavy rains that hit the UAE on Sunday and are expected to continue, the UAE Cabinet has declared Monday, February 12, a remote workday for all federal government employees, excluding those in essential roles requiring physical presence. This decision also extends to government schools and federal higher education institutions, which will shift to remote learning for the day.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has called upon private sector companies throughout the UAE to adopt flexible working patterns for Monday, February 12, due to the unpredictable weather conditions. Companies are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of outdoor workers and to comply with occupational health and safety standards.

Specific advisories for remote work and distance learning have been issued across various emirates, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, with all educational institutions in these regions moving to remote learning for the day. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai has encouraged private schools, nurseries, and universities to offer the option of distance learning, emphasizing flexibility in considering the needs of parents, staff, and students.

Authorities are cautioning residents to remain vigilant on the roads, with Abu Dhabi Police and Dubai Police issuing safety guidelines for driving in rainy conditions. These include adhering to reduced speed limits, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, and using low-beam headlights for better visibility.
