UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the provision of $20 million in humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. The aid will be channeled through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The UAE’s aid comes at a time when the Palestinian people are facing a number of challenges, including a protracted conflict with Israel, a severe economic crisis, and a food crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated these challenges.
UNRWA provides essential services to over 5 million Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. These services include education, healthcare, and social assistance.
The UAE has a long history of providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. In 2022, the UAE provided over $100 million in aid to Palestine.
The Palestinian people have been living under Israeli occupation for over 50 years. During this time, they have been subjected to a number of human rights abuses, including restrictions on their movement, access to land and resources, and the right to self-determination.
The Israeli occupation has also had a devastating impact on the Palestinian economy. The unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip is over 50%, and the poverty rate is over 80%.
The Palestinian people are also facing a food crisis. According to the World Food Program, over 1.3 million Palestinians are food insecure.
