Authorities in Abu Dhabi have reminded residents not to give money to beggars during the holy month of Ramadan, stressing that donations should only be made through authorized charities.
In a short awareness video shared on Instagram, Abu Dhabi Police highlighted the security risks linked to begging and called on the public to report such activities. “Begging poses a threat to the safety and stability of the community,” the police stated.
Residents were urged to support official fundraising organizations and assist law enforcement in tackling the issue. “By working together, we can keep Abu Dhabi safe and secure,” the message emphasized.
Begging is illegal in the UAE and carries penalties of up to three months in jail and a Dh5,000 fine. Those found operating begging syndicates or bringing individuals into the country for this purpose could face a six-month prison sentence and fines of Dh100,000. Unauthorized fundraising without proper permits can result in penalties as high as Dh500,000.
