The UAE has reaffirmed its dedication to addressing Sudan’s humanitarian crisis by announcing an additional $200 million in aid during a high-level conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 14, 2025. This latest pledge raises the UAE’s total humanitarian contribution to Sudan to $600.4 million since the conflict began.
The High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan, co-hosted by the UAE, Ethiopia, the African Union (AU), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), gathered key global leaders, including Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Kenyan President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.
Speaking at the event, UAE Minister of State H.H. Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan stressed the importance of unrestricted humanitarian access, urging warring factions to agree to a ceasefire to ensure aid reaches those in dire need, particularly women, children, and the elderly.
The conference aimed to rally regional and international support to mitigate Sudan’s deepening crisis, with the UAE leading calls for a humanitarian pause, especially during the upcoming Ramadan. The appeal gained significant backing from participating nations, reinforcing the urgent need for peace and immediate relief efforts.
