The UAE Pavilion, a striking falcon wing-shaped structure and highlight of Expo 2020 Dubai, has been reborn as the UAE House of Sustainability. This LEED Platinum-certified building, situated in the Green Zone, is set to open its doors from December 3 to 12, coinciding with the prestigious climate change conference COP28 held in Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
This innovative space aims to offer visitors a “multisensory guest experience” focused on the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to a net-zero future. Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasizes the importance of learning from the past and nature for future sustainability. The UAE House of Sustainability is designed to foster discussions and inspire delegates and the public about the UAE’s climate change initiatives and its vision for the future.
The pavilion, originally designed by Santiago Calatrava, resembles the UAE’s national bird, the falcon, with its dynamic falcon-wing design. It was one of the largest pavilions at Expo 2020, featuring 28 movable carbon fiber wings equipped with solar panels, real sand dunes, and interactive installations.
Key highlights of the UAE House of Sustainability include three main areas: Sustainability Oasis, Our Journey of Collective Progress, and Our Future of Sustainable Flourishing. During COP28, it will host various public events, including the PopCOP sessions in the Sustainability Oasis. These workshops will offer immersive and meditative activities, encouraging participants to evaluate their sustainable behaviors and learn effective climate impact strategies.
