The UAE has extended heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the Republic of the Philippines following a devastating landslide in the south of the country’s Province of Davao de Oro. The tragedy has resulted in dozens of casualties, injuries, and numerous individuals reported missing, inflicting severe damage to the region.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE expressed sincere condolences to the Philippine government, its people, and the families of the victims. Additionally, the UAE conveyed wishes for the swift recovery of all those injured in the incident.
The death toll from the landslide has tragically risen to 98 individuals, according to Lea Añora, spokesperson for the Management of the Dead and the Missing (MDM) unit. Añora reported that among the retrieved bodies, 88 were intact while 10 were recovered as body parts. Currently, 79 of the bodies have been identified, leaving 18 still unidentified.
Efforts to locate the nine individuals still missing are ongoing, with Incident Commander Engineer Ariel Capoy leading excavation operations to locate and recover any remaining victims.
