UAE: Motorists warned against exceeding 50% window tint

Police in Umm Al Quwain issued a warning today against vehicles exceeding the permissible 50 per cent window tint.

In addition, the use of rolling sunshades on windshields while driving has been flagged as a violation comparable to full tinting.

These rolling sunshades, which slide across the windshield, have been used by some drivers to conceal infractions such as not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, or having a child in the front seat.

Such concealment makes it challenging for police cameras to detect these violations.

According to the Federal Traffic Laws and its table of violations, motorists found to have tints beyond the allowable limit will face a fine of Dh1,500.

Furthermore, officials clarified that the windshield of any vehicle should not be tinted, have a heat insulator, or any obstruction that might hinder the driver’s view while on the road.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate emphasized that the approved tinting percentage was determined after comprehensive research.

This was done to ensure that the tinting does not compromise drivers’ visibility. The directorate’s field patrols have identified multiple instances where drivers’ visions were obstructed.
