The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has announced that visit visa extensions will now be limited to a one-time extension of 30 days, at a cost of Dh750.
Those holding a visit visa to see a relative or friend in the UAE, regardless of its initial validity (30, 60, or 90 days), can now only extend it by an additional 30 days. This amendment has been in effect for several weeks, following a decision by the UAE Cabinet.
Extensions can be conveniently processed via the “UAEICP” smart application. Applicants will need their original entry permit and a personal colour photograph to use this service.
Key requirements for the visa extension include:
The sponsored individual must be in the UAE during application.
The applicant’s passport must have at least six months of validity left.
The total fee of Dh750 comprises a Dh500 issuance fee, Dh100 application charge, Dh100 for smart services, and Dh50 for insurance and authority costs.
Conditions to obtain a visit visa encompass proofs of relationship and justification for the visit. When initiating the visa process via the application, the host’s details in the UAE are auto-filled, streamlining the process.
Applications can be denied if returned three times due to incomplete data or required document omissions. If an application is returned once, it will be electronically rejected after 30 days.
In the event of application fee refunds, the authority commits to processing them via credit card within six months or through a check/bank transfer (for in-country banks) within a maximum of five years.
The ICP continues to encourage UAE residents to use the smart application when inviting foreign friends or relatives, emphasizing its user-friendly interface and efficient electronic service.
