UAE leaders grant clemency to thousands of prisoners ahead of Ramadan

In a humanitarian gesture ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, UAE leaders have ordered the release of thousands of prisoners across the country.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pardoned 1,295 inmates, covering all fines and penalties associated with their sentences. This follows last year’s release of 735 prisoners ahead of Ramadan.

Similarly, Dubai’s Ruler and UAE Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has granted amnesty to 1,518 inmates of various nationalities from correctional facilities in the emirate.

Other emirates have also announced prisoner releases:

  • Sharjah: Ruler Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi ordered the release of 707 inmates.
  • Fujairah: Ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi pardoned 111 prisoners.
  • Ajman: Ruler Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi approved the release of 207 inmates.
  • Ras Al Khaimah: Ruler Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi granted clemency to 506 inmates and covered their financial obligations.
