The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has joined forces with telecommunications company du, part of the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), to unveil the ‘Happiness SIM’. This initiative is geared towards offering exclusive benefits to blue-collar workers at nominal prices.
Blue-collar workers can acquire the ‘Happiness SIM’ at business service and guidance centers, or through MoHRE’s online services when issuing or renewing their work contracts. The new SIM card comes with six months of complimentary data and reduced rates for international calls, providing workers with an affordable way to stay connected with family and friends abroad.
An additional feature of the SIM is that holders will be privy to essential notifications from MoHRE, keeping them abreast of important updates and information pertinent to their work and well-being in the UAE.
Commenting on the partnership, MoHRE’s Acting Undersecretary for Emiratisation Affairs and Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, Ayesha Belharfia, stated, “We are excited about this partnership with du, as it aligns with our mission to enhance the welfare of blue-collar workers in the country.” Belharfia emphasized the project’s commitment to empowering the blue-collar community in the UAE, ensuring they can maintain reliable connections with loved ones and access vital services.
Echoing Belharfia’s sentiments, Fahad Al Hassawi, CEO of du, highlighted the critical role connectivity plays in the lives of workers, particularly those in the blue-collar sector. “We are aiming to cater to their telecom needs and provide tailored solutions that offer both connectivity and affordability,” said Al Hassawi. He further noted that the initiative would also serve to welcome new blue-collar workers to the UAE by enhancing their experiences and facilitating an easier, more connected life, helping them save money for their families back home.
