UAE launches Blue Visa for sustainability leaders and innovators

The UAE has introduced the first phase of the Blue Visa, a 10-year residency program aimed at recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental sustainability. The initiative was announced by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, held from February 11 to 13.

In this initial phase, 20 sustainability leaders and innovators will be granted the Blue Visa. The program targets individuals actively engaged in environmental advocacy, including members of international organizations, NGOs, global award winners, researchers, and distinguished activists.

Interested applicants can either apply directly through the ICP or be nominated by relevant UAE authorities. The system allows for electronic approval through submissions made by government entities in the sustainability sector.

Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision to position itself as a global leader in sustainability by attracting top talent in climate action. Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, ICP Director-General, confirmed that applications for the Blue Visa will be accessible online 24/7 through the authority’s website and mobile app.

The Blue Visa joins the UAE’s other long-term residency programs, including the Golden and Green visas, further reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
