UAE investigates possible contamination in beef pepperoni brand

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) is investigating potential contamination in a brand of pepperoni beef suspected of containing Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that poses serious health risks.

As a precaution, the ministry has ordered the withdrawal of the product from UAE markets while laboratory tests are conducted. The name of the brand has not yet been disclosed.

Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hamadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Food Diversity at MOCCAE, emphasized in a WAM report that food safety remains a top priority. He assured the public that the ministry is working closely with local regulators, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and the manufacturer to address the situation.

Laboratory and field teams are collecting samples for analysis, while the Gulf Rapid Alert System for Food (GRASF) is being used to share critical information with other GCC countries to ensure prompt action.

MOCCAE has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding public health by collaborating with authorities to maintain strict safety standards for all food products in the UAE.
