Abu Dhabi now offers couples the ability to receive their marriage contracts instantly through text messages and other digital means. This service, announced by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) on Thursday, is the first of its kind in the region.
This digital approach enables couples to complete the entire marriage process from the comfort of their homes, including the option to say ‘I do’ via video conference. Since the introduction of digital marriage contracts in October 2022, the ADJD has issued approximately 7,000 such documents.
Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, undersecretary of the ADJD, highlighted the service as a reflection of the department’s dedication to innovation in the judicial and notarial sectors.
How the Digital Marriage Process Works in Abu Dhabi:
Submit an Application Online: Couples can apply for marriage using their UAE Pass on the ADJD’s website.
Approval and Finalisation: After the application is approved, couples can finalize the procedures online, choosing between a traditional in-person ceremony or a video-call session.
Book an Appointment: Schedule a time for the marriage session.
Receive the Contract Instantly: Following the marriage session, the digital contract is immediately delivered.
Sharing and Authentication: The finalized contracts, complete with a digital signature, can be shared through official channels.
The ADJD’s marriage platform enhances convenience by offering flexible scheduling options, including visibility into officiants’ availability and automated medical examination results. The system also provides digitally authenticated documents with unique contract numbers, thereby eliminating the need for traditional paper documentation.
