UAE extends grace period for residency violators to December 31

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has extended the grace period for residency violators by two months, moving the deadline to December 31, 2024. This extension is seen as part of the UAE’s celebrations of its 53rd Union Day and highlights the country’s commitment to humanitarian and cultural values.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, ICP Director-General, stated in a WAM report that the initiative aims to support individuals seeking to correct their residency status, whether by obtaining employment or arranging their departure from the UAE. This extended amnesty is expected to be the final opportunity for violators to regularize their status without facing penalties or future entry bans.

In recent weeks, the ICP has reported high demand at service centers nationwide, as individuals sought assistance before the previous deadline of October 31. Major General Al Khaili emphasized that after December 31, inspection efforts will intensify, and those who remain in violation may face fines and legal action.

The ICP, in cooperation with both government and private sector partners, has worked to resolve obstacles encountered by violators and continues to uphold its commitment to a smooth and fair process.
