UAE expresses condolences to the Philippines over deadly Typhoon Co-may

The United Arab Emirates has expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the Philippines following the devastating impact of Typhoon Co-may, which recently battered Luzon Island with torrential rains and powerful winds, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.

In an official statement released by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE extended its “sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims,” and offered words of support to the Philippine government and its people. The Ministry also wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured in the disaster.

“The typhoon resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, as well as significant damage to property,” the UAE government said in the statement, referring to Typhoon Co-may’s trail of destruction.

The storm, which struck the Philippines in late July 2025, triggered landslides, flash floods, and severe infrastructure damage across Luzon. The heavy rains brought by the typhoon, intensified by the southwest monsoon or “Habagat,” forced over 278,000 people to evacuate their homes. Entire communities were submerged, and key roads and farmlands were rendered impassable.

As of the latest report from the Philippine government, at least 31 people have died and several others remain missing, while over 6.7 million individuals have been affected by the combined effects of Typhoon Co-may and the monsoon rains. More than 80 towns and cities were placed under a state of calamity, and rescue and relief efforts are ongoing.
