The UAE has recorded its coldest day this year, with temperatures plummeting to a chilly 5.3°C. This record low was observed in Raknah, Al Ain, at 7.30 am on January 10, as confirmed by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). This temperature dip marks the lowest recorded by the NCM for the year.
Residents across various areas of the UAE have been experiencing this cold wave for the past few days, with the mercury consistently dropping to single digits. Notably, just a day before, on January 9, Jebel Jais mountain witnessed a temperature of 7.2°C. Since the onset of 2024, the country has seen temperatures frequently falling below 10ºC, especially in mountainous regions. The record for the coldest air temperature in the UAE was set in Raknah back in 2021, when it reached an astonishing -2ºC.
The winter season in the UAE, which officially began after December 21, has been relatively milder this year compared to previous years, with December’s average temperature being higher than usual.
This cooler weather has been a boon for outdoor and adventure enthusiasts. Jebel Jais, in particular, has become a hotspot for those seeking to experience the beauty of snow-capped mountains in the region. Fahad Mohamad Abdul Rehman, a renowned storm chaser in the UAE, in an interview with Khaleej Times, expressed his fondness for Jebel Jais. He described it as the best tourist place in the country during winters, attracting visitors with its serene, snow-covered peaks.
