A 31-year-old Pakistani resident has transformed his life in just three months, winning the male physical category of RAK Biggest Weight Loss Challenge 2024. Anwer Ali, who could barely walk a kilometre three months ago, now effortlessly treks 25 kilometres, all thanks to a rigorous training programme he followed since December 16, 2023.
Ali shared his journey, stating in a Khaleej Times report, “I enrolled in the weight-loss challenge, quit eating junk and sugar, and followed a strict diet of vegetables. I walked over 25 kilometres daily.” Starting at 120.2kg, he now weighs 90kg, winning both a healthier body and Dh9,000 in prize money.
Indian expat Akbar Shahid and Egyptian expat Haitham Elsafy Mohamed Elkady secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, losing significant weight and earning cash prizes.
In the female category, Muhsina Kalisam, an Indian resident, took the top spot, shedding 23.3 kilos and winning Dh6,900. She shared her journey of overcoming body shaming and adopting healthy dietary habits and exercise routines.
The 12-week challenge, held annually by RAK Hospital in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention Ras Al Khaimah, attracted 18,000 participants from across the UAE.
