A 51-year-old Indian expatriate tragically passed away from a heart attack while cycling during his routine evening exercise in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
According to a Khaleej Times report, Syed Asif, a father of three, was known for his active lifestyle. However, despite being immediately rushed to the hospital after collapsing, he could not be saved. His relative shared the sorrowful news, highlighting the unexpected nature of the incident.
Dr. Ahmad Assaf, a specialist cardiologist at Aster Clinic in Fujairah, commented on the increasing occurrence of heart attacks among seemingly healthy individuals. “Some individuals might overestimate the protective effects of exercise and neglect other critical aspects such as diet, stress management, and regular medical check-ups,” he explained in the same report.
Dr. Assaf also emphasized the role of genetics and chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, which can go unnoticed and contribute to heart attacks. He noted that high-pollution areas, poor diet, and sleep disorders are additional risk factors.
Dr. Mehmet Urumdas, a specialist cardiologist at NMC Royal Hospital and NMC Specialty Hospital, stressed the importance of heart screenings to identify issues that could lead to sudden cardiac death. “Heart safety is crucial for people of all ages. Regular screenings can help detect underlying heart conditions,” he said.
Dr. Kaes Al Anee, a consultant cardiologist at Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain, highlighted preventive measures. “Engage in at least 30 minutes of regular exercise, aim for 7 hours of quality sleep, manage stress, avoid heavy meals, and choose fresh foods. Regular health check-ups are essential,” he advised.
