UAE employee found guilty of stealing over AED300,000 meant for scrap paper purchase

A recent ruling issued by the Al Ain Primary Court has declared an employee guilty of embezzling Dh328,285, funds designated for the procurement of scrap paper. According to court records cited in a report by Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm, the woman was entrusted with Dh491,786 to purchase waste paper from suppliers as part of her employment responsibilities.

Upon investigation, the company discovered a significant portion of the budget had been misappropriated and diverted into the accused’s pocket. Consequently, the firm pursued legal action, demanding the full return of the embezzled amount along with nine per cent annual interest and coverage of all legal expenses.

The court’s verdict convicted the defendant of embezzlement, mandating the return of the misappropriated funds but without accruing interest. Additionally, the employee is required to cover the incurred legal fees. All other requests from the company were dismissed by the court.
