Motorists in the UAE will soon be able to exchange their driving licences for Texas-issued ones without undergoing tests, following a new agreement between the two jurisdictions.
The initiative was announced after the UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Texas’ Department of Public Safety. This agreement facilitates mutual recognition and replacement of driving licences, aiming to simplify procedures and improve mobility for residents and visitors in both regions.
Currently, holders of US driving licences can already convert their permits to UAE licences without testing under the MoI’s ‘Markhoos’ initiative. In Dubai, the process is available online for around Dh900.
