UAE declares public sector holiday to commemorate Prophet Mohammed’s birthday

The UAE government has announced a public sector holiday on Friday, September 29, 2023, in honor of the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday. The news guarantees a long weekend for public sector employees as they join the nation in celebrating this significant occasion.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources made the announcement through a post on its official Instagram account. Following this, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation distributed a memo to all government agencies and ministries, detailing the observance of the holiday.

In the released statement, the authority conveyed its heartfelt wishes to the leadership, government, and populace of the UAE, extending the greetings to the broader Arab and Islamic communities worldwide. The statement invoked blessings of “good health and wellness” as it looked forward to the auspicious day.

While the declaration is mainly directed towards the public sector, there is a growing expectation that the private sector will follow suit.
