UAE court fines marketer AED 10,000 over excessive promo calls

An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a bank marketing representative to pay Dhs10,000 in compensation, along with legal fees and expenses, after repeatedly making unsolicited calls to a customer — including at night — to promote banking products.

According to case records, the representative persisted in contacting customers far more frequently than other employees, leading one man to lodge a complaint with Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution. The constant calls caused enough distress for the customer to pursue legal action.

Following an investigation, the Criminal Court found the marketer guilty. The customer then filed a separate civil lawsuit seeking Dhs100,000 in damages for material and moral harm, plus annual interest and legal costs.

While the plaintiff’s lawyer pushed for full compensation, the defendant appeared in person, asking the court to dismiss the claim. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ultimately ruled in favor of the plaintiff, awarding him Dhs10,000 and ordering the marketer to cover fees and expenses.
