UAE officials have assured the public that chocolate products widely sold across the country remain safe for consumption, following confusion sparked by a U.S. recall involving a chocolate spread branded with “Dubai-inspired” flavors.
In a statement, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment confirmed that the recalled product — Spread Pistachio CaCao Cream With Kadayef by the brand Emek — is not sold in the UAE and is manufactured outside the country.
The clarification came after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raised a Class I warning — its highest level — regarding the Emek product over possible salmonella contamination. The item was distributed in the U.S. between June 11 and July 9, 2025, and later recalled by retailer World Market.
The Ministry stressed that this product is being mistakenly marketed as a Dubai chocolate item, noting that it only mimics the flavor profiles of popular UAE-based brands like FIX Dessert Chocolatier.
“The well-known Dubai chocolate, available in its various forms in the country’s markets, is free from salmonella contamination,” the Ministry said.
Authorities reiterated that Dubai-made chocolate products follow strict safety and quality guidelines and urged consumers to remain confident in the country’s food safety measures. The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to consumer protection through constant coordination with relevant agencies.
