A video of Lulu Group chairman Yusuffali MA leading the funeral prayer and helping carry the coffin of a long-time employee has gone viral on social media, amassing over 4.7 million views in just four days.
Yusuffali, the billionaire chairman of UAE-based retail giant Lulu Group, was seen at the funeral of CV Shihabudheen, a supervisor at Lulu Hypermarket in Al Wahda Mall, Abu Dhabi. Shihabudheen, who had served the company for 18 years, suffered a cardiac arrest while on duty and was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
The funeral prayer took place in Baniyas before Shihabudheen’s body was prepared for repatriation to his hometown in Kerala, India—where Yusuffali also hails from. The late employee’s father had also been a former Lulu worker.
Many netizens praised Yusuffali’s compassionate gesture, with some calling it an example for other business leaders. However, those close to him noted that this was not an isolated act.
Among those present at the funeral were Saifee Rupawala, CEO and Executive Director of Lulu Retail, and other senior executives of the company.
