Abu Dhabi’s Environment Agency (EAD) has issued a call to the public to safeguard the wild birds that inhabit the region, emphasizing the importance of these “beautiful” creatures. The agency’s notice, posted on X, highlights that Abu Dhabi’s islands become a refuge for birds during the hot summer months, with some serving as crucial breeding grounds for migratory terns.
The EAD reminded residents that it is illegal to collect wild bird eggs, in accordance with Federal Law No. (24) of 1999. This law prohibits hunting, capturing, or harming wild birds and their nests, with penalties for violators ranging from imprisonment to fines between Dh2,000 and Dh20,000.
Authorities stressed the collective responsibility to ensure the safety of these birds and urged the public to report any illegal activities related to egg collection by contacting the emirate’s government at the toll-free number 800555.
