UAE authorities have apprehended a gang attempting to smuggle drugs worth Dh3.87 billion into the country. The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Storm’, saw the seizure of an unprecedented 13 tonnes of banned captagon pills.
The audacious smuggling attempt involved hiding a total of 86 million pills within 651 doors and 432 decorative panels. The concealed narcotics were packed into five shipping containers, ready for distribution.

Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, announced the successful bust in a press conference, confirming that six individuals had been arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt. The Dubai Police were credited for their meticulous work in apprehending the suspects.
Detailing the operation, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan narrated how the police meticulously tracked down the suspects, arresting them one after the other. Authorities were alerted to the smuggling bid and embarked on an intensive investigation, which culminated in the discovery of the narcotics skillfully concealed within doors and panels.
A video released by the Ministry of Interior illustrated the painstaking process of disassembling the doors and panels to uncover the hidden drugs. The footage showcases law enforcement’s unyielding determination to dismantle criminal networks attempting to peddle narcotics in the country.
