The UAE Media Council is investigating a bullying incident involving a young girl during the filming of a children’s programme broadcast on a media platform. The council issued a statement on Sunday, emphasizing that it will not tolerate any content that breaches media regulations or child protection laws in the country.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the council is in communication with the girl’s family to gather more details and is conducting a thorough investigation with relevant parties. Following the investigation, necessary actions will be taken.
Cyberbullying, including online harassment through social media, is a criminal offense in the UAE, with laws such as Federal Law No. 5 of 2012 and Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021 providing strict penalties. Convicted individuals can face up to three years in prison and fines ranging from Dh250,000 to Dh500,000, with additional provisions for the confiscation of devices used in the crime. The laws cover various forms of cyberbullying, including extortion, insults, and defamation via social media.
