The UAE authorities have announced a two-month grace period for residence visa violators to have their fines waived, starting September 1.
According to a Khaleej Times report, this period will allow violators to either regularize their status or leave the country without facing penalties.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) stated that this decision aims to offer violators a chance to comply with the law, reflecting the UAE’s values of compassion and tolerance. Detailed procedures for the amnesty will be announced soon, the ICP added.
Residence visas in the UAE vary in validity depending on the type and sponsor, ranging from one to ten years. Those who fail to renew their visas or leave the country before their visa expires face fines, which were standardized in 2023 to Dh50 per day for overstayers. Expats have up to six months to renew their visas after they are cancelled or expired.
