The UAE government has officially declared the holiday schedule for private sector employees for the forthcoming Eid Al Fitr celebration. The break is set to start on Monday, April 8, and will extend until 3 Shawwal, matching the corresponding Gregorian dates based on the Islamic lunar calendar.
Depending on the lunar observation, which determines the length of Ramadan to either 29 or 30 days, the Eid holiday will vary accordingly. Should Ramadan encompass 30 days, employees will enjoy a holiday from April 8 (29th of Ramadan) to April 12 (3rd of Shawwal), resulting in a nine-day leave when including the preceding weekend (Saturday-Sunday) from April 6 to April 14. Conversely, if Ramadan is observed for 29 days, the holiday will span from April 8 to April 11, offering a six-day break including the weekend before, from April 6 to April 11.
Eid Al Fitr signifies the conclusion of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, and is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal.
In related news, the UAE Cabinet had previously declared a nine-day Eid holiday for federal government employees, while public sector employees in Sharjah are set to enjoy a 10-day break due to their three-day weekends.
