UAE amnesty: Filipinos without jobs encouraged to return to Philippines rather than overstay

The Philippine Embassy in the UAE has urged all Filipinos currently without employment visas to take advantage of the UAE’s Amnesty Program, which officially concludes today. The program, implemented to assist overseas Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, offers an opportunity to return home without facing fines or immigration penalties.

On October 29, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, working with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), repatriated another 47 Filipinos, bringing the total repatriated since September to 581. This support from UAE authorities has waived overstay and absconding fines, relieving participants from the legal challenges associated with overstaying.

Consul General Marford M. Angeles, alongside the MWO and OWWA teams, personally facilitated the departure process, ensuring a smooth and dignified return for the repatriates. Each participant also received a free plane ticket and financial aid to ease their reintegration into the Philippines.

As today marks the final day of the amnesty program, Philippine Ambassador H.E. Alfonso A. Ver emphasized the importance of seizing this last opportunity, especially as UAE companies have been directed to cease recruitment of overstayers.
