The Abu Dhabi Municipality has introduced an initiative that allows UAE citizens to purchase discounted food items simply by using their Emirates ID card.
This initiative nullifies the necessity for the periodic renewal of food commodity cards, simplifying the acquisition process considerably.
Citizens can avail themselves of this service at specified outlets, which include Abu Dhabi and Baniyas Co-operatives societies, along with municipality storage facilities located at Muroor and Mussafah.
These locations offer a range of food items and products at both subsidised and reduced prices, presenting a vital resource for families looking to save on essential goods.
To be eligible for the food card, one must be a UAE national residing in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The service ensures that allocations are disbursed to the beneficiary families holding the card monthly without a fixed date for entitlement.
Furthermore, children of mothers married to non-citizens are eligible to be added to the card, following the submission of the necessary documentation.
This rule is also applicable to the children of divorced women, granted that the mother is the guardian.
It is also worth noting that unmarried customers with a separate family book can apply for a card.
However, misuse or violation of the service’s rules can result in the suspension or cancellation of the card.
For customers opting for home delivery, a fee of Dh36.75 applies.
