Two Russian nationals lost their lives while scuba diving off Verde Island, Batangas, on Thursday, according to the Coast Guard Batangas.
A report from Unang Balita on Friday stated that four Russians were diving in the Pulong Bato area when they were caught in a sudden strong current. While two managed to escape, the other two went missing.
Rescue teams later found one of the missing divers and rushed them to a hospital, but doctors declared the victim dead on arrival. Hours later, authorities recovered the body of the last missing diver, who had lost an arm, possibly due to a shark attack, the Coast Guard reported.
