A devastating shooting in Lancaster, California, early Saturday morning left four people dead, including Filipino siblings Janvi Maquindang and Christine Asa-Ca, alongside Asa-Ca’s fiancé Edwin Garcia. Three dogs were also found shot at the scene.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, the tragic incident occurred around 1 a.m. inside a family home. While Maquindang, Asa-Ca, and Garcia were pronounced dead at the scene, Maquindang’s partner, Matthew Montebello, succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital. Firefighters were also called to extinguish a blaze at the property, though the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Authorities have yet to announce any arrests or establish a motive for the crime. Asa-Ca had been a legal guardian to two younger siblings, who were present but unharmed during the incident.
The Maquindang family described the incident as a “senseless act of gun violence” and launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover expenses and support the surviving siblings.
“The loss is overwhelming, and the pain of their absence is something we are struggling to bear every day,” the family shared in a statement, adding that the emotional toll on the surviving siblings is “immeasurable.”
The family is appealing for support as they navigate the aftermath of this tragedy and work to provide stability for the younger siblings.
