Two Filipino fishermen in Hawaii receive financial aid after work-related accidents

Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Honolulu, Hawaii have received financial assistance from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Los Angeles following separate workplace accidents that left them with serious hand injuries.

Both OFWs were working aboard fishing vessels when they sustained severe finger injuries—one of them requiring surgical reattachment, while the other is currently undergoing medical treatment.

The aid was provided through the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) AKSYON Fund, which aims to provide immediate relief for distressed Filipino workers abroad.

“Our Filipino fishermen are part of the vulnerable sectors of OFWs. It is only right that we provide necessary assistance, support and monitoring to ensure their welfare are protected,” said Labor Attaché Macy Monique A. Maglanque.

She emphasized that the swift response was in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac to prioritize the well-being of Filipino workers, particularly those in high-risk jobs.
