Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently celebrated its 14th Public Transport Day and the RTA’s 18th anniversary by honoring consistent users of the city’s public transport system. In a ceremony led by Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA director general, six ‘Public Transport Champions’ were awarded for their exemplary use of mass transit in Dubai.
Dhiren Bhatia, Salem Al Somahi, and Mohamed Abdul Kader were recognized in the people of determination category for completing 8,000, 7,000, and 6,750 journeys respectively. The general public category saw Mohamed Thalangara Aboobaker in the lead with 15,900 journeys, with Mohammad Ahmadzadeh and Sirajudeen Abdul Kader following close behind.
The top winners, Dhiren Bhatia and Mohamed Thalangara Aboobaker, received one million nol Plus points each. Meanwhile, second and third-place winners were awarded 700,000 and 500,000 nol Plus points respectively. These points can be utilized by commuters for various benefits, such as topping up their nol card or obtaining discounts at select shopping and dining outlets.
Nol Plus is a loyalty program introduced by RTA for its nol card holders to earn rewards each time they utilize Dubai Metro, taxis, public buses, or pay for parking.
In his statement, Al Tayer emphasized the RTA’s commitment to promoting the extensive use of Dubai’s public transport as a step towards becoming a “world leader in seamless and sustainable mobility.”
The public transport celebration, which will run until November 8, is themed ‘Gym on the Go’.
