The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday that two people have died and ten were injured in Central Visayas due to the onslaught of tropical storm Enteng.
According to the NDRRMC’s morning bulletin, these figures are still subject to change as the situation is continually monitored. The storm, located near Infanta, Quezon as of 10 a.m., is causing heavy rains and strong winds across large areas of Luzon and Visayas, leading to the suspension of sea and air travel, as well as the cancellation of government work and classes.
Significant flooding has been observed in parts of Metro Manila, surrounding provinces, and Visayas, including Camarines Sur. Rising waters in the Marikina River have also forced some residents to evacuate.
The storm has impacted 63 people in Central Visayas, with 43 of them currently taking shelter in evacuation centers, and at least 10 homes have been damaged. Additionally, the Philippine Coast Guard reported that 2,413 people were stranded at various ports nationwide as of early Monday.
In response to the storm, the Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepared over P970 million worth of food and non-food items for distribution to affected local government units. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reassured the public that the government is actively monitoring the situation and is ready to assist those affected by the storm.
