Two police officers were killed in an anti-narcotics operation in Barangay Tambubong at noon yesterday, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt for the suspect.
In a PhilStar Global report, Bulacan police director Col. Satur Ediong identified the slain officers as Staff Sergeants Dennis Cudiamat and Gian George dela Cruz, both assigned to the Bocaue police.
According to an initial investigation, the two were conducting a buy-bust operation in Sitio Tugatog when an unidentified assailant opened fire, hitting Dela Cruz. Cudiamat chased the gunman but was also shot, suffering a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He died on the spot.
Dela Cruz was rushed to Dr. Yanga Hospital but succumbed to his injuries around 3:20 p.m., Ediong confirmed.
The attacker allegedly took Cudiamat’s service firearm before escaping. Authorities are now pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Meanwhile, in Laguna, a police lieutenant is under investigation for allegedly using falsified academic records to join the Philippine National Police (PNP).
A complaint filed by the officer’s partner led the National Police Commission-Calabarzon (Napolcom-Calabarzon) to probe the matter.
Napolcom-Calabarzon chief Owen de Luna said the officer, whose identity is being withheld, will be summoned for questioning. Investigators are verifying the authenticity of his transcript of records and diploma, which were allegedly acquired in Manila for a fee.
The officer, who reportedly holds a Computer Science degree from 2012, is assigned to the Calabarzon police’s National Support Unit.
