Two Asians get life term in Dubai for selling narcotics on social media

Two Asian men will spend the rest of their lives behind bars after the Dubai Court of Appeal upheld their life sentences for possessing and promoting narcotics on social media, Gulf Today reported.

The court affirmed the original verdict, which also imposed a fine of AED 500,000 on each of the defendants. Both were additionally banned from transferring or depositing funds without permission from the UAE Central Bank, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, for two years after completing their sentences. They will be deported following the ban period.

According to court records, anti-narcotics officers received a tip in February last year about the men’s illegal activities in the Hor Al Anz area. After obtaining a warrant, a police team arrested them and seized several packets of hashish from their possession.

Investigators said the men later admitted to concealing more drugs in multiple locations. Authorities eventually discovered over 550 grams of narcotic substances at their residence in Rigga, along with tools used for dividing and packaging drugs.

The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s decision, cementing the life imprisonment sentence for the two offenders.
