Tulfo urges swift help for OFWs falsely accused by abusive employers

Senator Raffy Tulfo has called on government agencies to immediately assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are unjustly accused of crimes by their employers, particularly in the Middle East.

During a Senate Committee on Migrant Workers hearing on March 6, 2025, Tulfo raised alarm over the growing number of OFWs facing theft charges despite suffering from mistreatment in their workplaces. He also pressed the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to hold abusive employers accountable for filing false cases.

“Aping-api na nga, kinulong pa… Sana marami pa tayong mapalabas na kababayan natin na wrongly accused,” Tulfo said, urging the DMW to step up efforts in securing the release of innocent OFWs.

The senator emphasized the need for better monitoring systems to protect migrant workers and ensure that those who exploit or abuse OFWs face consequences.
