President-elect Donald Trump announced plans on Monday to declare a national emergency and utilize military assets to implement mass deportations of undocumented immigrants in the United States, aligning with his campaign pledge. The announcement came after Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton posted on Truth Social about reports of Trump’s forthcoming emergency declaration, to which Trump replied, “TRUE!!!”
Tom Homan, appointed as Trump’s new border czar, confirmed during an interview with FOX News that the administration is already working on the plan. “I’ll be heading to Mar-a-Lago this week to finalize the details. ICE will no longer be restricted,” Homan stated, adding that he aims to double the number of ICE agents in sanctuary cities.
Homan expressed disappointment with the cooperation of sanctuary cities, saying, “I wish they would collaborate, but if not, they need to step aside because we are moving forward with or without their support.”
In reaction, immigrant rights organizations are preparing for a significant legal response. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has already initiated legal action against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), demanding further clarity on the agency’s operational plans for mass deportation. ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero highlighted the potential consequences, emphasizing that Trump’s approach could fundamentally alter the lives of millions and reshape American society.
