The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has announced that the UAE will experience an “indirect effect” from the tropical cyclone forming in the Arabia sea. Moisture streaming from the sea will cause cumulus clouds and rainfall in the eastern and southern regions of the country.
Currently classified as a category 2 cyclone, ‘Tej’ boasts wind speeds between 165-175kmph. However, within the next 24 hours, the cyclone is predicted to intensify into a category 3, with wind speeds reaching up to 190kmph.
Oman is set to bear the brunt of the cyclone, with expectations of heavy rainfalls and potential flash floods starting tonight, particularly in the Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates. The peak of the cyclone’s impact is projected for October 23 and 24, as per updates from Oman Meteorology.
In anticipation of the storm, Omani authorities have declared holidays for both public and private sectors in affected areas and have closed schools. The UAE Embassy in Muscat is advising Emiratis in Oman to adhere strictly to safety guidelines provided by local authorities.
The NCM continues to monitor the cyclone closely and urges residents to refrain from disseminating unfounded rumors.
