Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has declared his candidacy for Mayor of Caloocan City in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. Trillanes, a former Navy officer turned politician, gained national attention for his role in two attempted coups against the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, protesting government corruption. Despite being jailed for these actions, Trillanes won a Senate seat in 2007 and continued his political career after receiving amnesty in 2010.
Known for his vocal opposition to President Rodrigo Duterte during his time in the Senate, Trillanes aims to bring his brand of change to Caloocan. “Parating na po ang pagbabago,” he stated, promising reforms for the city. His candidacy marks his return to public office after serving two terms as a senator from 2007 to 2019.
