The Filipino community in Dubai is mourning the loss of Jeanelyn “Ji” Jarder, a beloved visual artist, interior designer, and community leader. Ji passed away on January 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2022. Ji, originally from Bacolod City, Philippines, was known for her vibrant artworks inspired by the MassKara Festival. This exhibition was part of the consulate’s initiative to highlight emerging Filipino artists and was celebrated by officials and community members alike.

Despite her diagnosis, Ji remained an active force in the Filipino community. In March 2024, she became the president and founding member of Las Damas de Rizal – Dubai and Northern Emirates Chapter, an organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal. Ji spearheaded numerous initiatives, including the Walk of Hope event, which supported cancer patients and their families.
