Two brothers, aged five and six, were found dead inside a damaged pickup truck two days after they went missing in Labason town, GMA Regional TV reported.
Police reported that the boys had been playing near a repair shop on January 26, 2025, when they hid inside the abandoned vehicle. The truck, which had tinted windows, accidentally locked, trapping them inside.
Labason Municipal Police Station Chief, Captain Roy Malayo, explained that the pickup had been left at the shop for repairs and was parked in an isolated area. Due to its tinted windows, the trapped boys went unnoticed.
The shop owner discovered their lifeless bodies on January 28, already in a state of decomposition. Investigators found evidence suggesting the boys had desperately tried to escape by breaking the windows, but their efforts were in vain.
Their mother had sought police assistance when they failed to return home. She expressed deep sorrow upon learning what had happened.
Authorities reminded parents to closely monitor their children and urged shop owners to secure vehicles properly to prevent similar tragedies.
