A major collision involving 20 vehicles—including 16 cars and four trucks—shut down the Waib Al Hannah to Dibba Al Fujairah road on Wednesday, leaving nine people injured, according to authorities.
According to a Khaleej Times report, emergency units from Dibba Al Fujairah Police, Masafi Comprehensive Police Station, and the National Ambulance rushed to the crash site, where eight individuals were treated for minor injuries and one for moderate injuries. All were transported to the hospital for medical care.
The road, completely blocked by the wreckage, was later cleared and reopened to traffic. Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the collision, with legal proceedings expected to follow.
In the aftermath, the Fujairah Police General Command called on drivers to take extra care, especially on mountainous routes. Motorists were reminded to observe speed limits and maintain safe distances to prevent similar tragedies.
The incident comes amid a troubling spike in road accidents across the UAE. Just this week, two separate school bus accidents were reported. On June 9, 13 students and a teacher were injured in a crash along E311. A day later, another minor school bus collision occurred in Ajman’s Al Mowaihat area, though no injuries were reported.
New data also reveals the growing danger of truck-related congestion along Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road (E311), which has already led to six deaths and 137 accidents since January.
Nationwide, road fatalities are on the rise. The Ministry of Interior reported 384 road deaths in 2024—32 more than the previous year and 41 more than in 2022.
