Tourist dies after being hit by train in Japan while taking photos

A 61-year-old tourist from Hong Kong tragically lost her life in Otaru City, Hokkaido, after being struck by a train while attempting to take photos on railway tracks. The incident occurred as the woman stood on the tracks to capture images of the ocean, reportedly failing to notice the incoming train.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities, including the Immigration Department, the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong, and the Chinese Consulate in Sapporo, are investigating the incident and providing assistance to the victim’s family.

This incident follows a similar accident in Taiwan, where a 36-year-old Filipina tourist was injured while taking photos near a railroad track in Pingxi District, New Taipei. The woman was struck by a passing train, sustaining injuries to her head, chest, and pelvis. She is currently recovering in a hospital after undergoing spine surgery, according to MECO chairperson Cheloy Garafil.
